SoundTree Offers Online TI:ME Courses

SoundTree is proud to announce that beginning March 1st, 2010, we will be offering three online TI:ME Courses for graduate credit through a partnership with Five Towns College.  The courses will meet completely online, using both weekly live video conferences and Five Towns Colleges online course management tool, BlackBoard™.  Courses run 12 weeks and cost $750 per course (plus $50 application fee).  Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive 3 graduate credits.

To register for any of the courses below, please download, print, and fill-out the attached registration form (DOWNLOAD REGISTRATION APPLICATION) and mail to Five Towns College - 305 North Service Rd., Dix Hills, NY 11746-5871.  Be sure to include a check made out to Five Towns College in the amount of $750 per course plus a $50 application fee.  Registration deadline is Friday, February 20th.  There is a minimum requirement of 9 registered students per course in order for each course to run.  In case the course needs to be canceled, you will be notified by February 27th.  For more information, please contact us at info@soundtree.com.

The following courses are being offered:


EDU 521, TI:ME 1A: Basic Skills - Electronic Instruments, MIDI Sequencing, and Notation
Instructor: Dr. Thomas Rudolph
Classes will be held on Mondays from 7-8PM EST

The course will cover basic skills in music notation, MIDI sequencing, and electronic keyboards in K-12 education. Participants will explore many ways to incorporate these tools into the curriculum.. Satisfactory participation in class activities and successful completion of several projects will be required. The following equipment and software must be owned in order to participate in this course: Sibelius notation software version 5 or 6. A MIDI keyboard or MIDI keyboard controller connected to your computer. Required sequencing software: GarageBand for Mac; Mixcraft for Windows. Both Mac and Windows computers can be used. This course fulfills half of TI:ME Level 1 certification requirement.

PREREQUISITE: This course requires basic facility on a computer, including using a mouse, opening applications, and saving files.


EDU 522, TI:ME 1B: Basic Skills in Music Technology: Instructional Software, Communications, and Digital Media
Instructor: Stefani Langol
Classes will be held on Mondays from 7-8PM EST

The course will cover basic skills in using computer instructional software, configuring and using computers on networks and the Internet, and the basics of using digital media in K-12 education. Participants will explore many ways to incorporate these tools into the curriculum. This course fulfills half of the TI:ME Level One Certification requirement.

PREREQUISITE: This course requires basic facility on a computer, including using a mouse, opening applications, naming and saving files, clicking and dragging, copying files, and basic windows operations (closing, resizing, expanding, minimizing).It is strongly recommended that beginners take TI:ME 1A: Basic Skills with Electronic Keyboards, MIDI Sequencing, and Notation prior to registering for this course.


EDU 523, TI:ME 2A: Music Notation Software (Finale)
Instructor: Dr. Scott Watson
Classes will be held on Thursdays from 7-8PM EST

Participants will learn to use music notation software (Finale) to print out scores and parts. The course will be taught in a hands-on environment. The course is designed to train instrumental, choral, and classroom music specialists to use Finale for notating and printing music. Participants will learn how to input music using an electronic keyboard and computer and to print out scores and parts. Topics include: transposing band and orchestra parts; printing a choral score; music notation problem solving; incorporation of notation examples into word processors; composing and arranging music; and using notation software with students. Participants will bring several examples of music notation to be entered during the course. Maximum number of students is 16.

PREREQUISITE: TI:ME Level One Certification, or completed a minimum of 2 courses in music technology, or comparable experience using music sequencing software with a Macintosh or Windows PC. This course is designed for the experienced computer user. ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST HAVE Finale 2008 or higher to participate.
