A Conversation with Bob Morrison

Mr. Morrison is the Founder and CEO of Quadrant Research, the nation’s leading arts education research organization where he has created a deep body of research and policy work. Mr. Morrison is recognized as a pioneer in statewide arts education status and condition research. He served as the managing partner for the groundbreaking New Jersey Arts Education Census Project, completing the first statewide census for arts education in every school building. Mr. Morrison has led similar research projects as director of the National Arts Education Data Project. His efforts have directly impacted millions of students.

A Conversation with Eric Ebel

Eric Ebel is the Senior Program Manager for NAMM’s Member Services team, where he leads key national initiatives that support music education and promote career pathways in the music and creative industries. He oversees NAMM’s Music Educator and Music Student programming at The NAMM Show and manages Consider a Career in Music, the organization’s flagship initiative aimed at expanding awareness of the broad spectrum of music-related careers beyond performance and teaching.

A Conversation with Bryan Powell
Chief Program Officer, MusicWill
Dr. Bryan Powell joined the Music Will team in 2014. Prior to his role as Chief Program Officer, Bryan worked at the organization as both the Senior Director of Programs and the Director of Higher Education. Bryan also served as the Director of Programs for Amp Up NYC, a partnership between Berklee College of Music and Little Kids Rock. A former NYC public school music teacher, Bryan is an Assistant Professor of Music Education and Music Technology, and the Coordinator for the Recording Arts and Production degree at Montclair State University.

A Conversation with Mike Lawson

A founding participant of TI:ME since 1997, Mike is a lifelong professional musician and audio engineer with a deep passion and dedication for music education. Former editor (now owner) of School Band & Orchestra + Magazine (SBO+) and MMR Magazine. Mike was a Grammy Trustee, publisher of over 200 books/videos on audio/music production, and has released eight albums in his career featuring multiple RnR Hall of Fame members and others. Mike still performs over 30 shows a year as a guitarist/vocalist.

A Conversation with Kevin Droe
Associate Professor of Music in Music Education / Coordinator of the UNI Spectrum Project
Kevin Droe, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Music Education at the University of Northern Iowa, specializing in teaching undergraduate and graduate music education. He founded the UNI Spectrum Project. This initiative offers children with differing abilities a weekend of music, movement, drama, and art activities. His research focuses on special populations, innovative music education, and popular music. In 2018, Kevin established AmpCamp, an annual summer popular music youth camp. In 2022, he launched Spectrum JamFest, an annual youth music festival. Kevin Droe teaches workshops in audio, modern band and popular music education throughout Iowa.

A Conversation with Bob Habersat
Commercial Music Educator, Co-Founder of Shedthemusic
Bob Habersat is a music educator, curriculum developer, and co-founder of Shedthemusic.com. He is the recipient of the 2026 Mike Kovins TI:ME Teacher of the Year Award and was named a 2025 Yamaha "40 Under 40" music educator. Bob teaches guitar, music technology, and music theory at Oak Lawn Community High School in Oak Lawn, Illinois, where he also sponsors the school's student-run entertainment label- Morning Show Media. He is the author of Fretboard Fundamentals, Rewire Theory, and the Production Through Performance curriculum, and co-author of Electronic Music Elements. Bob presents nationally on songwriting, music technology, and popular music education.

A Conversation with Dennis DeSantis
Associate Professor of Music and Technology, Eastman School of Music
Dennis DeSantis is a composer, percussionist, sound designer, author, and educator working across concert halls, clubs, studios, and classrooms. His work explores the boundaries between musical worlds, blending classical training with deep involvement in electronic music technologies and cultures.
DeSantis is Associate Professor of Music and Technology at the Eastman School of Music. He was formerly Head of Music Learning at Ableton, where he led development of the interactive platforms Learning Music and Learning Synths, contributed to the design of Live and Push, and served as a curator and moderator for the Loop conference. He is the author of Making Music: 74 Creative Strategies for Electronic Music Producers, widely used in music production courses worldwide.

A Conversation with Eric Matzat
Executive Director at AIMM, Alliance of Independent Music Merchants
Eric Matzat, like his siblings, was introduced to music through piano lessons at a young age, but it was the saxophone that truly captured his heart. His love for the instrument carried him from school bands to professional theaters in Branson, Missouri, where he and his wife also taught in local schools. As a passionate band director, Eric formed a close relationship with Palen Music, the store that supplied his program with essential tools and encouragement. In 2005, he joined Palen’s team in a role that felt custom-built for his experience and dedication. Over the past two decades, Eric cultivated deep connections across the music industry, served on the NAMM Board of Directors, and became a driving force behind the NAMM Young Professionals initiative. In 2025, following his time on the AIMM advisory board, Eric was appointed executive director of AIMM. His tireless advocacy for youth music education and industry growth continues to make a lasting impact.

A Conversation with Shane Colquhoun
Asst. Professor of Music Technology & Contemporary Musical Styles, ASU
Shane Colquhoun, PhD., is a music educator, producer, and mentor dedicated to helping students discover their creative voice. An Assistant Professor of Music Technology and Contemporary Music Styles at Alabama State University, he blends traditional music education with modern approaches that highlight student creativity and innovation. He has years of experience as a successful band director, guiding ensembles to excellence while fostering inclusive, student-centered spaces. He has published in the Journal of General Music Education (formerly General Music Today) and the Media Journal in Music Education, and is the author of The Producers of Pop: A Comprehensive Plan for Studying Popular Music Producers. He also serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Music, Technology & Education. Dr. Colquhoun is Chair of NAfME’s Council for Innovations, Research Chair for the Alabama Music Educators Association, and a Board Member for the Association of Popular Music Education.

As a DJ and musician, Eric Jao, also known as DJ Enferno, has performed for more than 3 million people across 36 countries. He is the Founder of Mix Major, an electronic music school for kids and teens, and the co-creator of the Electronic Music ELEMENTS curriculum for grades 4–12. He teaches in-school K-8 electronic music production programs.
